CONTEXT

CreateSC's 2025 theme was "Digitizing Tangible Experiences."

Inspired by the rise of personalized software and skeuomorphism, our team wanted to push ourselves to capture a feeling rather than design a product.

Have A Nice Day was inspired by the quiet moments of our morning routines-- the textures, sounds, and habits that sets the tone for the day that follows. The morning routine is universally experienced but deeply personal to the individual.

THE CONCEPT

Capture the quiet, forgotten sensations of a relaxing morning routine––digitally.

In an increasingly digital world, maintaining a connection to the physical sensations that propel us is essential.

DELIVERABLES

The final submission needed to include the following:

The deliverables.

THE PROCESS

01. Brainstorming

As always, our first step was to create a moodboard for our project.

FIGURE 02

Braindumping with my teammates as we thought about which sensations to incorporate.

FIGURE 03

While ideating, I like to draw and write out my thoughts with pen and paper. Here, I'm planning different interactions we could include.

02. Intro

Because we only had 24 hours to complete this from start to finish, we jumped right into hi-fi––there was no time for wireframes.

FIGURE 04

Entering the experience: waking up to the sunlight.

FIGURE 05

My attempt to recreate phosphenes by layering handdrawn shapes over each other, then animating with prototype.

My handdrawn sunlight layers for the landing screen, along with the final result after layering.

03. Shower

Priming the transition into the shower segment.

FIGURE 08

Loading into the shower portion of the experience. I wanted this to double as environmental storytelling––the shift from blue to red mimics the water temperature rising as you wait for the shower to heat up.

THE RESULT

After 24 short hours, my team and I had created a highly customizable, immersive morning routine experience that combined elements of sound, texture, illustration, and prototyping.

This was a super intensive process with lots of iteration, scrappiness, and failed drafts. For more information and detailed notes on this experience, please reach out!

TAKEAWAYS

What I learned from CreateSC

Just do it

The tight turnaround meant there was no time to dwell on details. We were forced to start putting pen to paper (or cursor to Figma....) ASAP and refine as we went. It was an unfamiliar process, but one that pushed us to trust our instincts as designers and hone in on the core of the experience rather than the fluff.

Collaboration = emergence

The team made this experience what it was. Everyone brought a genuine depth of knowledge and care to their craft, making our discussion sessions insightful, fulfilling, and inspiring. This kind of shared investment and grind made the entire process incredibly meaningful, and one that I look back on fondly.

Made with love
